1,700 HP Fight: Tuned Hellcat vs. Procharged Shelby GT350 Drag Race

This is a brilliant time to be a muscle car aficionado, with the Big Three delivering a group of beasts that even manage to surpass the late 60s heroes that made the genre so popular. And, as you can imagine, the aftermarket side of the industry is more than happy to help those who feel that the otherwise meaty factory outputs are not enough.

Let’s take the pair of muscle beasts in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page, for instance. Between them, these two slabs of America reportedly pack around 1,700 ponies, a number that would be enough to split between, say, three muscle cars and an average machine.

According to YouTube gossip, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat we have here has been taken far, far away from its 707 hp stock output, with the Mopar machine rumored to pack north of 950 ponies.

As for the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 we can see in this video, the pony has been taken down the forced induction route. The Voodoo motor of the Blue Oval machine now features a Procharger, a piece of hardware that can be labeled as a belt-driven turbo. The YT rumors talks about this ‘Stang delivering about 750 horses. Given the scale footprint difference between the GT350 and the Hellcat, the battle involving the two V8 wielders might just seem legit.

Now, before we invite you to enjoy the giggles delivered by the drag strip confrontation of the two, we have to point out that the Hellcat was fitted with overly sticky rubber – notice how the Challenger lifts its front wheels off the asphalt as it takes off.

When it comes to the aural side of the battle, the flat-plane voice of the Mustang makes quite a difference. Nevertheless, we’ve seen plenty of aficionados who would rather go for the old school cross-pane voice of the Hellcat, along with the Dodge’s generous blower whine, so it’s time to choose your side.
