2017 Challenger Hellcat and Camaro ZL1 Take On 3 Rolling Races

The 2017 model years have started being delivered in the last few weeks and we already have drag races. In this case, a brand new Camaro ZL1 and a Challenger Hellcat have a series of rolling starts. It’s a factory stock showdown we’re glad to see because tuning shops are already rolling out upgrade packages. There’s something magical about seeing them race in their natural state when they can easily surpass 1000 horsepower.
With both cars sitting in their stock build, there’s a little mismatch in stats that slant the favor one way. In raw horsepower, it goes to the 707hp Dodge because the Chevrolet only shows 640. The two cars’ output in torque is much more closely matched. The Challenger turns 650 pound feet while the Camaro makes 640lb-ft.
The Hellcat has a 3.6 second 0-60 as well as an 11.7 pass on the quarter mile. Meanwhile, the ZL1 carries a faster 0-60 of 3.5 seconds and a quarter mile in 11.4. The real advantage we see in the video comes in the rolling start format of the races. 199mph and 173mph top speeds mean that the longer they run a straight line, the further away the Dodge pulls.
With all of that stacked in the purple car’s favor, it’s still an interesting series of pulls. They’re close in the first portion that we would have expected and both cars are easy on the eyes. Not to mention that we get different Go Pro mount angles than the usual spots to watch from.
Check out the video below and let us know what you think of this brand new muscle hitting the track. We’re interested to know which one is more of a crowd favorite in the comments section. Based on everything you know, do you like the Challenger Hellcat or the Camaro ZL1 more?
