50 YEARS SEPARATE THESE CHEVYS, HOW MUCH BETTER DID THEY GET AT CRASH TESTS?
If you take a look at the build quality from a machine constructed today and can also get your hands on something from 50 or so years ago and can compare the two, you’ll notice that, in 99% of the cases, the build quality of the more modern car will exceed that of the older car in everything from the materials that the seats are made out of to aspects like safety and everything in between. This time, it just so happens that we’ll be paying attention to the safety features on cars that were built in the year 2009 and 1959, separated by exactly 50 years of production by the same manufacturer.
This time, the question in mind is how exactly five decades of production well help with the safety standards that each of these cars aspires to live up to. We know that time make a difference in how exactly these cars take on a collision but how much of a difference? You’d be inclined to think that the margin would be wide but then again, you never know. All of that steel behind the older car might just help it to take on the brunt of a hard hit, as we see in this video. However, the only way to figure out once and for all is to put them to the test and see for ourselves just how they’ll act when they get put through a series of different tests to see how their safety standards compare.
If you follow along down the video below, you’ll be able to see how exactly in 1959 Chevrolet Bel Air is able to compare with 2009 Chevrolet Impala. I think of the results of these tests can pretty much speak for how exactly safety has come along as a whole in this community. If there’s one thing that we have really focused on in our cars over the past 50 years and that is really improving every year, it would definitely be safety. Did this test end in exactly the way that you would have pictured it to? If not, be sure to tell us what you think of the results.
