That Feeling When You Buy a Small Car for Easy Parking and You Still Can’t Do It
spoiler alert: Its painful to watch !
Whatever it is you’re doing behind the wheel, it’s best that you know your limits. Heading into a bend with more speed than you can handle can have catastrophic consequences.
That means if you’re going to try new stuff that you haven’t done before, do it gradually. To continue with the example above, start by approaching a corner with just a few miles per hour more than you normally would, see how that goes, do it again to make sure you got the hang of it, and then add a few more mph. Rinse and repeat.
The same goes for squeezing through a tight spot. 360-degree cameras will help with that, so if you know you have problems approximating the size of your vehicle, then by all means, that feature was created precisely for you.
Another alternative would be buying a smaller car. The smaller, the better in this case, so there’s no real limit here. A smart fortwo should do the trick, even though there are even narrower options out there. For instance, any old city car would do since there weren’t so many safety regulations back then and they didn’t need crumple zones and all those things designed to keep you alive, making them extremely diminutive.
This driver right here opted for one such vehicle, and after watching the clip, the reason becomes wildly apparent. You can tell just how small that car is by comparing it to the vehicle in front – a Peugeot hatchback, as far as we can see, which is a small car itself.
But if that’s too ambiguous for you, then you have a much handier tool: the size of the actual parking space they’re trying to slide the car in. Saying you could fit two of them is often an exaggeration, but not in this case. And yet the driver is agonizingly jerking back and forth in a desperate and futile attempt to move closer to the curb.
The clip fades out at one point, and legend has it that driver is still striving to complete the parking maneuver. Who knows, if they keep at it for few years, then the road workers might come and put them out of their misery by moving the curb itself.
