Watching drag races always gets the blood pumping, but a good old-fashioned heads-up race between a pair of rare and classic Mopars is like an extra shot of adrenaline.
If there’s anything better than watching a Plum Crazy 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T run the quarter-mile, it’s watching it do so next to a lustworthy 1967 Plymouth GTX. This pair of Mopar muscle lined up against each other recently at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex in a classic head-to-head battle between a 440 Six Pack and a 426 Hemi.
Both of these cars are quite rare, so it’d be nice just to see either at a local car show, but the 390-hp Challenger R/T and 425-hp GTX go all out. While it would seem that the two cars raced more than once (based on the cars switching lanes in the video), this run showed that the Challenger edged out the GTX with a 12.23 E/T versus 12.38. Not bad numbers for what appear to be a couple of bone-stock Mopars.
