See the Corvette Z06’s fuel gauge drop on a 0-185 run
John Hennessey just got his hands on a brand-new Corvette Z06 with an eight-speed auto.
It’s a safe bet that the Texas tuner wants to crank up the power on Chevy’s absurdly fast, 650-horse super-‘Vette—this is, after all, the guy that makes GMC Yukons with more horsepower than the stock Z06.
But before he gets to tuning, Hennessey needs some baseline performance numbers. So he took his Z06 out for a blast to 185 MPH.
You don’t see much in this video: The camera is only focused on the Corvette’s gauges. But you do hear that supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V-8 scream. And while the tachometer screams to redline all the way into sixth gear, and the boost gauge stays pegged, it’s the fuel gauge that has us fascinated.
Watch closely. According to the dashboard, this Z06 goes through nearly one sixteenth of a tank of gas on this single top-speed run.
Given the ‘Vette’s 18.5-gallon fuel tank, this video portrays the obliteration of roughly 1.15 gallons of dinosaur juice. Those ancient beasts died nobly for the cause of terminal velocity.
